First-time politician Rachel May’s journey to office in the New York State Senate began in fall of 2018. Today, she represents the 53rd district, comprising Syracuse, New York, and surrounding communities. Rachel won her candidacy for the Democratic Party defeating seven-term incumbent Dave Valesky, who had not faced a Democratic opponent in 14 years. During her campaign, Rachel knocked on over 4,000 doors, determined to connect with every person she could and now says that was easily the best part of the campaign. Three years later, Sen. Rachel May continues to serve her district, writing and proposing new bills and legislation to help support the Central New York community.
